The same applies to directing one’s mind towards recounting people’s statements and the conclusions of their thinking. It also applies to interpreting the Quran according to the views of an authority whom one blindly follows in religion or doctrine: one resorts to every strained interpretation to make the Quran subordinate to one’s school of thought and supportive of one’s imam’s position. What all these people hold veils them from understanding Allah’s intent in His words in many or most of these matters.
Likewise, those who fail to appreciate the Quran as it deserves suppose that it is insufficient for knowing Allah’s oneness, His names and attributes, what must be affirmed of Him, and what He must be declared free of. Rather, they consider the intellects of the perplexed and bewildered sufficient for this, although every one of them has plainly contradicted the Quran’s explicit statements. These people are the most severely veiled from understanding the Book of Allah Most High. And Allah, glorified and exalted be He, knows best.
