a blessing for him. Do you not see that we have not been commanded to preserve the Torah and the Gospel, even though many of the laws in these two scriptures agree with the law of the Quran? This and other considerations clarify what Muslim scholars have stated: the Gospel contains only a few rulings of its own, while in most rulings it follows the Torah. These differences distinguish the two laws. For this reason, Christians have agreed upon preserving and reciting the Torah, just as they preserve the Gospel.

Thus, when the Negus heard the Quran, he said:

“Surely this and what Moses brought shine from the same lamp-niche.”

Likewise, Waraqah ibn Nawfal said to the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—when the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—described to him what was coming to him:

“This is the angel of revelation who used to come to Moses.”

Likewise, the jinn said:

“We have heard a Book sent down after Moses.”

Allah Most High also said:

“But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, ‘Why was he not given the like of what Moses was given?’ Had they not previously disbelieved in what Moses was given?”

They said, “Two sorcerers supporting one another”—meaning Moses and Muhammad. In the other Quranic reading:

“Two works of magic supporting one another”—meaning the Torah and the Quran.

He also said:

“They did not give Allah His due when they said, ‘Allah has revealed nothing to any human being.’ Say, ‘Who sent down the Book brought by
