He also said, may Allah have mercy on him:

Section: On Listening

The foundation of the listening that Allah has commanded is listening to what the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, brought, with understanding and acceptance.

In this respect, people fall into four categories: those who turn away and refuse to listen; those who hear the sound but do not understand the meaning; those who understand it but do not accept it; and, fourth, those who listen with understanding and acceptance.

The “first category” are like those of whom He said:

“Those who disbelieve say, ‘Do not listen to this Quran, but make noise during its recitation, so that you may prevail.’”

The “second category” are those who hear its sound but do not understand its meaning. Allah Most High said:

“The example of those who disbelieve is like that of one who shouts at what hears nothing but calls and cries. Deaf, dumb and blind, they do not understand.”

Allah Most High also said:

“And among them are those who listen
