hatred, for they harbor hatred without love. The misguided among the latter, meanwhile, were characterized by misguidance and excess, because they direct love toward what is not rightly worshipped. They have longing, will, and love, but these are not directed toward a proper object of pursuit, will, or love. Rather, they have mingled things together, gone to excess, and associated partners with Allah. Thus, they love both truth and falsehood, allowing both what is loved and what is hated to be present, just as the others hate both truth and falsehood, rejecting both what is loved and what is hated. May Allah, glorified be He, guide us along His straight path.
What is praiseworthy in the latter is their love and acknowledgment of truth; what is praiseworthy in the former is their hatred and rejection of falsehood.
