Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

This is further supported by the well-known hadith of Abū Umāmah transmitted by al-Baghawī:

Tālūt ibn ‘Abbād narrated to us: Fadālah ibn Jubayr narrated to us: I heard Abū Umāmah say: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say:

“Guarantee me six things, and I will guarantee you Paradise: when any of you speaks, let him not lie; when entrusted with something, let him not betray that trust; when he makes a promise, let him not break it. Lower your gazes, restrain your hands, and guard your chastity.”

He thus guaranteed Paradise to whoever fulfils these six qualities. The first three free a person from hypocrisy, and the last three from sinful disobedience. Those addressed are Muslims: if a person is not a hypocrite, he is a believer; and if he is not sinfully disobedient, he is God-fearing and therefore deserving of Paradise.

This accords with what Ibn Abī al-Dunyā narrated:

Abū Sa‘īd al-Madanī narrated to us: ‘Umar ibn Sahl al-Māzinī narrated to me, saying: ‘Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Suhbān narrated to me: Safwān ibn Sulaym narrated to me, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Every eye will weep on the Day of Resurrection except an eye that turned away from what Allah has forbidden, an eye that stayed awake in Allah’s cause, and an eye that shed a tear the size of a fly’s head out of fear of Allah.”

The words of Allah, glorified is He:

“Do not gaze longingly at the worldly splendour We have granted some of them to enjoy, through which We test them,”

include looking at wealth, clothing, physical appearances and other worldly enjoyments. As for clothing and physical appearances, these are the two things Allah does not look at, as reported in Sahīh Muslim from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said:
