mentioning them together, and because of the debate between them. For Moses is Adam’s counterpart in what befell each of them, just as the Messiah is Adam’s counterpart in his creation. He also says:
“If guidance should come to you from Me”
—and so on through the following verses. This resembles the passages elsewhere in the Quran that mention Adam’s prophethood and then that of Moses after him. He commanded the Children of Israel, then commanded His Prophet to observe the prayer enjoined in the Quran, just as He combined the commands to recite and to prostrate in the first surah revealed. He closes this surah by mentioning the Messenger who conveys everything he is commanded to convey, just as He opened it by mentioning the revelation sent down to him.
