As for someone in this state of intoxication, his utterances should be passed over, not repeated, provided that his intoxication was not caused by something prohibited. If its cause was prohibited, however, he is not excused.
Among those who hold to divine indwelling are some who become so overwhelmed by the heart’s witnessing and the manifestation it experiences that they imagine they have seen Allah with their physical eyes. This is why some otherwise sound worshippers have mistakenly reported such an experience. It is authentically reported in Sahīh Muslim from al-Nawwās ibn Sam‘ān:
“When the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, spoke of the Dajjāl and his claim to lordship, he said: ‘Know that none of you will see his Lord until he dies.’”
The same meaning has also been reported from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, through several other sound chains of transmission in accounts concerning the Dajjāl.
When the Dajjāl claimed lordship, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, mentioned two distinguishing signs evident to everyone. The first is that the Dajjāl is blind in one eye, whereas Allah is not blind in one eye. The second is that none of us will see his Lord until he dies. He mentioned this specifically concerning the Dajjāl, despite his being a disbeliever, because extraordinary feats occur at his hands that strengthen the misleading impression in the hearts of ordinary people.
