Surah al-Nahl
Shaykh al-Islām—may Allah have mercy on him—said:
Section
Clothing has two benefits: first, adornment through covering the private parts; second, protection against harmful heat, cold, or enemies.
Allah mentioned clothing in (Surah al-A‘rāf) for its benefit as adornment. It is this aspect that matters in prayer and circumambulation, as indicated by His words:
“Take your adornment at every place of prayer.”
He also said:
“O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts.”
And He said:
“Say, ‘Who has forbidden the adornment Allah has brought forth for His servants, and the good things He has provided?’”
This refuted their pre-Islamic prohibitions against circumambulating in the clothes in which those outside the Hums had arrived, and against eating the fats they had rendered.
