and he can perform more inward deeds than outward deeds, as one of the early generations said:

“The believer’s strength lies in his heart, and his weakness in his body; the hypocrite’s strength lies in his body, and his weakness in his heart.”

For this reason, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“A person will be with those he loves.”

He also said:

“There are men in Medina who have been with you on every journey you have made and in every valley you have crossed; a valid excuse kept them behind.”

He also said, “The two are equal in reward,” in the hadith concerning the person able to spend and the one unable to do so, who said, “If I had wealth like so-and-so’s, I would use it as he does.” Since their deeds of the heart were equal, and one of them had a valid excuse for being unable to act physically, their recompense was equal. As the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“When a servant falls ill or travels, he is credited with deeds like those he used to perform when healthy and not travelling.”
