and His messengers, though He is unseen,” and His words:

“If you support Allah, He will support you,”

and similar passages. Support, however, involves a certain meaning; yet in such a case one does not say, “I was hungry.” Allah has mentioned lending and support in the Quran and attributed both to Himself: the former concerns provision, and the latter support. Visiting the sick is mentioned in the hadith. These three matters are mentioned in His words, Most High:

“and those who remain patient in poverty, hardship, and battle,”

and His words:

“They were afflicted by poverty and hardship and were shaken.”

The hadith concerns only poverty and hardship, because these are matters that the individual addressed in His words can attend to alone:

“My servant, I was ill and hungry.”

For this reason, He reproached him. Support, however, ordinarily requires a number of people, so generally no particular individual is reproached over it. Alternatively, the purpose of the hadith is to draw attention to these matters.

The Quran mentions support and provision, but not visiting the sick, because support and lending have a general scope and are not restricted to one person rather than another. Visiting the sick, however, is only for those with whom one finds the True One.
