to every nation a messenger, proclaiming, ‘Worship Allah and shun false gods.’ Among them were those Allah guided and those upon whom misguidance was decreed.” Allah Most High also says:
“We never sent a messenger before you without revealing to him: ‘There is no god but Me, so worship Me.’”
It is authentically reported from Abū Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“We prophets share one religion. The prophets are brothers with one father and different mothers. Indeed, I am the closest of all people to the son of Mary; there is no prophet between him and me.”
Thus, their religion is one; only their laws and ways differed, as Allah Most High says:
“For each of you We have prescribed a law and a way.”
The messengers therefore agree on the religion that encompasses the fundamental principles of belief and practice. The principles of belief include faith in Allah, His messengers, and the Last Day. The practical principles include the general rules of conduct mentioned in Sūrat al-Anʿām, Sūrat al-Aʿrāf, and Sūrat Banī Isrā’īl, such as His words, Most High:
“Say, ‘Come, I will recite what your Lord has forbidden you,’”
through to the end of the three verses; and His words:
“Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him,”
through to the end of these injunctions; and His words:
“Say, ‘My Lord has commanded justice. Turn your faces towards Him at every place of worship, and call upon Him, devoting your worship sincerely to Him.’”
And His words:
“Say, ‘My Lord has forbidden only indecencies, whether open or hidden; sin; unjust aggression; associating with Allah that for which He has sent down no authority; and saying about Allah what you do not know.’”
