from bowing, he would say: ‘O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs all praise, filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever else You will. O You who are worthy of praise and glory! The truest words a servant can say—and we are all Your servants—are: None can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, nor can anyone’s worldly fortune avail him against You.’”
Muslim also related from Abd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: “Whenever the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, raised his head from bowing, he would say: ‘Allah hears whoever praises Him. O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs all praise, filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever else You will. O Allah, purify me with snow, hail, and cold water. O Allah, purify me of sins and misdeeds as a white garment is cleansed of dirt.’”
Muslim also related in his Sahīh that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to say: “O Allah, to You belongs all praise,” and that he said: “And filling the earth, and filling all that lies between them.”
This was not mentioned in some narrations, because “the heavens and the earth” may refer generally to what is above and what is below. This includes the air and other things, since the air is above what lies beneath it and below what lies above it. It may therefore be counted as part of the sky, just as clouds and a roof may be called “sky.” Likewise, He said in the Quran:
“It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then rose above the Throne.”
