Since matters are as Allah states in His words:

“Whatever good befalls you is from Allah, and whatever evil befalls you is from yourself,”

it follows that the servant must seek good things—which include every blessing—from Allah alone, and recognize that they come from Allah alone. Allah therefore deserves thanks for them that no one else deserves. The servant must also know that none is worthy of worship but Him. As Allah Most High says:

“Whatever blessing you have is from Allah.”

This obliges the servant to thank Him and worship Him alone. Then He says:

“Then, when adversity touches you, to Him you cry out for help.”

This describes their condition. Crying out entails raising one’s voice, and a person only cries out when adversity afflicts him. When enjoying blessings, however, he is quiet, whether grateful or ungrateful.

“Then, when adversity touches you, to Him you cry out for help.”

“Then, when He removes the adversity from you, some of you at once associate partners with their Lord.”
