take heed? How can I fear what you associate with Him, while you do not fear having associated with Allah that for which He has sent down no authority to you? Which of the two parties, then, has a greater right to security, if you know?”
“Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing—it is they who will have security, and they are rightly guided.”
And He said:
“Will you not fight a people who broke their oaths?”
Up to His words:
“Do you fear them? Allah has a greater right that you should fear Him, if you are believers.”
“And fear Me alone.”
And He said:
“Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, fears Allah, and is mindful of Him.”
Noah said:
“Worship Allah, fear Him, and obey me.”
Thus he called for worship and reverent fear of Allah, and obedience to himself. As Allah Most High said:
“We did not send any messenger except to be obeyed by Allah’s permission.”
Likewise, the messengers, such as Noah, Hūd, Sālih, Shuayb, Lot, and others, said:
“So fear Allah and obey me.”
Thus they called for reverent fear of Allah, and obedience to themselves.
Likewise, in very many places in the Quran:
“Fear Allah.”
“Fear Allah.”
“We have enjoined upon those who were given the Scripture before you, and upon you, to fear Allah.”
And likewise… (1)
And He said:
“In Him I put my trust, and to Him I turn.”
And He said:
“Turn to your Lord in repentance and submit to Him.”
And He said concerning Abraham:
“When his Lord said to him, ‘Submit,’ he said, ‘I have submitted to the Lord of all worlds.’”
Bilqīs said:
“Indeed, I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.”
And He said:
“Who is better in religion than one who submits himself to Allah, does good, and follows the faith of Abraham, inclining to true faith?”
And He said:
“Yes, whoever submits himself to Allah and does good will have his reward with his Lord.”
And He said:
“And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you.”
“Whoever repents and does righteous deeds truly turns to Allah in repentance.”
And He said:
“So repent to your Creator.”
“Turn to Allah in sincere repentance.”
And as for seeking forgiveness:
“Seek your Lord’s forgiveness; indeed, He is ever Forgiving.”
