Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

And in Sahīh Muslim, ʿIyād ibn Himār reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Allah Most High says: ‘I created My servants with pure devotion to Me, but the devils led them astray. They forbade them what I had made lawful for them and commanded them to associate with Me that for which I had sent down no authority.’”

Thus, if left to its natural disposition, the soul acknowledges Allah as God, loves Him, and worships Him without associating anything with Him. Yet it is corrupted by the falsehood that the devils among humans and jinn make alluring to it, inspiring one another with it. Allah Most High says:

“And when your Lord took from the children of Adam—from their loins—their descendants and made them testify concerning themselves, ‘Am I not your Lord?’ They said, ‘Yes, we testify.’ This was so that you could not say on the Day of Resurrection, ‘We were unaware of this,’ or say, ‘It was only our forefathers who associated others with Allah, and we were their descendants after them. Will You then destroy us for what those who followed falsehood did?’”

The explanation of this verse is set out at length elsewhere.

The second:

Allah Most High has granted people general guidance through the knowledge and means of learning He has placed within their natural disposition, and through the Books He has sent down to them and the messengers He has sent to them. Allah Most High says:

“Read in the name of your Lord who created—
created man from a clinging clot.
Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,
who taught by the pen,
taught man what he did not know.”

And Allah Most High says:

“The Most Merciful
taught the Quran,
created man,
taught him
