And He said through His close friend Abraham:
“Indeed, I disavow whatever you worship, except Him who created me; He will surely guide me.”
And He said:
“Have you considered what you have been worshipping—you and your forefathers? They are enemies to me, except the Lord of all worlds.”
And He said:
“When it set, he said, ‘O my people, I disavow whatever you associate with Allah. Indeed, I have turned my face toward Him who created the heavens and the earth, inclining to true faith, and I am not one of the polytheists.’”
This hatred, enmity, and disavowal of whatever is worshipped besides Allah and of its worshippers are present in the heart and expressed through the tongue and limbs. Likewise, love for Allah, loyalty to Him, and loyalty to His allies are present in the heart and expressed through the tongue and limbs. These give effect to the declaration, “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.” This means affirming the heart’s worship of Allah with pure love and genuine submission, preventing it from worshipping anything besides Allah, and hating and detesting such worship.
Thus, a person worships Allah alone, loves to worship Him, and hates the worship of anything else. He loves to place his trust in Him, fear Him, and call upon Him, and hates placing his trust in anyone else, fearing them, or calling upon them. All these are things present in the heart. They are the good deeds for which Allah grants reward.
As for merely not committing evil deeds, without knowing that they are evil or disliking them, but simply not doing them because they have never crossed one’s mind, or they cross one’s mind just as
