which I record for you and then recompense you for in full. Whoever finds good should praise Allah, and whoever finds otherwise should blame no one but himself.”
Allah Most High said:
“When a calamity befell you, though you had inflicted twice as much, did you say, ‘How has this happened?’ Say, ‘It is from your own selves.’”
And He said:
“But if evil befalls them because of what their own hands have done, they immediately despair.”
And He said:
“Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what people’s hands have earned, so that He may make them taste some of what they have done, that perhaps they may return.”
And He said:
“We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves.”
And He said:
“We did not wrong them, but it was they who were the wrongdoers.”
And He said:
“I will surely fill Hell with you and all those among them who follow you.”
And He said to the believers:
“But Allah has endeared faith to you and made it beautiful in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience hateful to you. Those are the rightly guided.”
They have also been commanded to say in prayer:
“Guide us to the straight path,”
“the path of those You have blessed, not of those who have incurred Your wrath, nor of those who have gone astray.”

Some have supposed that the verse presents an apparent difficulty or contradiction, since He said, “All are from Allah,” then distinguished between good things and evil things, saying, “Whatever good befalls you is from Allah, and whatever evil befalls you is from yourself.”
