Likewise, I have denounced, in public and private gatherings, the practice of many people who appeal for rescue and assistance to the righteous and those who imitate them, whether living or dead. I have explained Allah’s oneness to people, and through this Allah has benefited as many of the elite and the general public as He willed. This is the universal religion of Islam with which Allah sent all His messengers.

As Allah Most High said:

“We certainly sent a messenger to every community, saying, ‘Worship Allah and shun false gods.’”

And He said:

“We never sent a messenger before you without revealing to him, ‘There is no god but Me, so worship Me.’”

And He said:

“Ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you: did We appoint gods besides the Most Merciful to be worshipped?”

And He said:

“O messengers, eat of the good things and do righteous deeds. Indeed, I know all that you do.”

“And indeed, this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord, so fear Me.”

And He said:

“He has ordained for you the religion He enjoined upon Noah, that which We have revealed to you, and that which We enjoined upon Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: uphold the religion and do not become divided in it. What you call the polytheists to is hard for them to accept.”

And He said:

“I did not create jinn and humankind except to worship Me.”

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Muādh ibn Jabal:

“O Muādh, do you know Allah’s right over His servants?”

I replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.”

He said, “His right over them is that they worship Him and associate nothing with Him. Do you know the servants’ right upon Allah if they do that? That He should not punish them.”

And he said to Ibn Abbās:

“When you ask, ask Allah; and when you seek help, seek help from Allah.”

Worship includes reverent fear, turning to Allah, submission, and repentance, as Allah Most High said:

“Those who convey Allah’s messages and fear Him, and fear no one but Allah.”

And He said:

“So do not fear people, but fear Me.”

And He said:

“Only those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish prayer, give zakat, and fear none but Allah maintain Allah’s mosques.”

Abraham, Allah’s close friend, said:

“I do not fear what you associate with Him, unless my Lord wills something. My Lord encompasses all things in knowledge. Will you not then
