as testimony, so that he may give it before others, as in the case of people whose contracts or acknowledgments are witnessed by others. Allah’s witnesses are those who testify for Him to what He has brought about and done, and convey testimony from Him. When they see someone whom Allah has made righteous and pious, they testify that Allah has made him so, conveying testimony from Him. Thus they are Allah’s witnesses on earth. It is He, glorified be He, who has made them witnesses by enabling them to know and express what they testify to. His making this known to them is itself testimony from Him to that effect. This, too, is therefore part of His testimony.
Allah Most High says:
“For them are glad tidings in the life of this world and in the Hereafter.”
The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, explained these glad tidings as good dreams, and also as people’s commendation and praise. Glad tidings are news of something pleasing, and a report is testimony to those glad tidings, forming part of Allah Most High’s testimony. And Allah, glorified be He, knows best.
