Since Allah’s testimony entails His explaining to His servants, guiding them, and acquainting them with what He has testified concerning Himself, He must make known to them that He has borne witness, for this testimony is the greatest of all testimonies. Otherwise, if He bore witness in a way they had no means of knowing, they would derive no benefit from it, nor would that testimony establish any proof against them. Likewise, if a created being possesses testimony but does not disclose it, concealing it instead, no one benefits from it, nor does it establish any proof.
For this reason, He, glorified be He, condemns those who conceal the knowledge He has revealed and the testimony it contains. As He, Most High, says:
“And who is more unjust than one who conceals a testimony he has from Allah?”
That is, he possesses testimony from Allah but conceals it. This is the knowledge Allah has made clear, for it is a report from Allah and His testimony to what it contains.
He has condemned those who conceal it, just as some of the People of the Book concealed the reports and testimony they possessed concerning Abraham and his household. They concealed their submission to Allah, along with the reports in their possession corresponding to what Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, conveyed, descriptions of him, and other matters. He, Most High, says:
“Indeed, those who conceal what We sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear for the people in the Scripture—those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse.”
And He says:
