Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

you dislike something which is good for you, and perhaps you love something which is bad for you.”

The point here is that some sins cause beneficial knowledge, or part of it, to remain hidden. Indeed, they may cause a person to forget what he has learned and to confuse truth with falsehood, giving rise to turmoil.

Allah, glorified is He, had settled Adam and his wife in Paradise and said to them:

“Eat freely from it wherever you wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you become wrongdoers.”

“But Satan caused them to slip and brought them out of the state they had enjoyed. We said, ‘Go down, as enemies to one another.’”

Every instance of enmity, affliction, and suffering among their descendants until the Hour is established, and in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection, is caused by sins and disobedience to the Lord, Most High.

When a person remains steadfast in obeying Allah, inwardly and outwardly, he enjoys the bliss of faith. Knowledge comes to him from every direction, and he lives in the paradise of this world, as in the hadith:

“When you pass by the gardens of Paradise, graze in them.”

It was asked, “What are the gardens of Paradise?”

He replied, “Gatherings of remembrance.”

He also said:

“Between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise.”

For here he would be amid the gardens of knowledge and faith. Whenever a person’s heart is engaged in loving Allah, remembering Him, and obeying Him, it is attached to the highest realm
