As for worship and seeking help, these are for Allah alone, who has no partner, as He said:
“Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him.”
“You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.”
“They were commanded only to worship Allah, devoting their religion sincerely to Him, upright in faith.”
He has joined the two together in several passages, as in His saying:
“So worship Him and put your trust in Him.”
And His saying:
“Put your trust in the Ever-Living, who never dies, and glorify Him with praise.”
And His saying:
“In Him I put my trust, and to Him I turn.”
Likewise, trust is to be placed in Allah alone, as He said:
“And in Allah let those who trust put their trust.”
And He said:
“Say, ‘Have you considered those you invoke besides Allah? If Allah intends harm for me, can they remove His harm? Or if He intends mercy for me, can they withhold His mercy?’ Say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me. In Him those who trust put their trust.’”
And He said:
“Those to whom people said, ‘The people have gathered against you, so fear them,’ but this only increased them in faith, and they said, ‘Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Trustee.’”
Invocation is for Allah alone, whether it is invocation through worship or invocation through petition and seeking help, as Allah Most High said:
“The mosques belong to Allah, so do not invoke anyone along with Allah.”
“When the servant of Allah stood up to invoke Him, they almost crowded around him.”
“Say, ‘I invoke only my Lord, and I associate no one with Him.’”
Allah Most High said:
“So invoke Allah, devoting your religion sincerely to Him, even if the disbelievers dislike it.”
And He said:
“So do not invoke another god along with Allah, lest you be among those who are punished.”
And He said:
“Do not drive away those who invoke their Lord morning and evening, seeking His Face.”
He condemned those who invoke the angels, the prophets, and others, saying:
“Say, ‘Invoke those whom you claim besides Him. They have no power to remove harm from you or to shift it elsewhere.’ Those whom they invoke themselves seek a means of approach to their Lord, striving to be closest to Him. They hope for His mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed, your Lord’s punishment is something to beware of.”
It is reported from Ibn Masʿūd that some people used to invoke the angels
