Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

in an authentic hadith:

“Nothing like it has been revealed in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, or the Quran. It is the seven oft-repeated verses and the glorious Quran that I have been given.”

Its virtues are very numerous. It has been related from al-Hasan al-Basrī, in a report transmitted by Ibn Mājah and others, that Allah revealed one hundred and four books, gathered their knowledge into the four, gathered the knowledge of the four into the Quran, gathered the knowledge of the Quran into the al-Mufassal section, gathered the knowledge of al-Mufassal into the Mother of the Quran, and gathered the knowledge of the Mother of the Quran into these two comprehensive phrases:

“You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.”

Thus, the knowledge contained in the books revealed from heaven is gathered into these two comprehensive phrases.

Hence, it is established in the authentic hadith:

“Allah Most High says: ‘I have divided prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves: half is for Me and half is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.’

When he says, ‘All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds,’ Allah says, ‘My servant has praised Me.’ When he says, ‘The Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful,’ Allah says, ‘My servant has extolled Me.’ When he says, ‘Master of the Day of Judgment,’ Allah, Almighty and Majestic, says, ‘My servant has glorified Me’; and in another narration, ‘My servant has entrusted his affairs to Me.’ When he says, ‘You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help,’ He says, ‘This verse is divided into two halves between Myself and My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.’ When he says, ‘Guide us to the straight path—the path of those You have blessed, not those who have incurred Your anger, nor those who have gone astray,’ He says, ‘These verses are for My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.’”
