It has become clear that they belong among the devils, not the angels. This shaykh and his father were protectors of the unbelievers. His father was called “Muhammad al-Khālidī,” a name associating him with a devil whom he kept close, called Shaykh Khālid. They claim that this devil is a human, one of the “men of the unseen.”

A trustworthy informant related to me that he used to say, “The prophets have ruined the path.” By my life, they certainly have ruined the path of the devils—the devils among humans and jinn!

These shaykhs who love the Muslims, yet maintain allegiance to shaykhs who ally themselves with the polytheists and serve as protectors of the unbelievers, believing them to be allies of Allah, share with those men a fundamental error: they regard satanic wonders as belonging to the same category as miraculous gifts from the Most Merciful. They have failed to distinguish between the allies of the Most Merciful and the allies of Satan. As Allah Most High says:

“And whoever turns a blind eye to the reminder of the Most Merciful, We appoint for him a devil to be his companion.”

Both groups have turned a blind eye to the reminder that the Most Merciful revealed—the Book and the Sunnah—and to the spirit that Allah revealed to His Prophet, which Allah made a light by which He guides whomever He wills of His servants. Through it, the allies of the Most Merciful are distinguished from the allies of Satan. Nor have they distinguished between the prophets’ signs and miracles and the extraordinary feats of sorcerers and soothsayers. For this is “the doctrine of the Jahmiyyah determinists,” and all these people share this doctrine. They do not hold that Allah loves what He commands and hates what He forbids. Rather, they hold that He loves everything He has decreed and ordained
