He continually distorts the Quran, taking its words out of their proper context, as when he said concerning this account:

“‘Because of their sins’—it was these that carried them onward, so they drowned in the seas of knowledge of Allah, which is bewilderment. ‘And were cast into a Fire’—within water itself. Concerning the Muhammadans: ‘And when the seas are set ablaze.’ ‘I stoked the oven’ means ‘I lit it.’ ‘And they found no helpers besides Allah’—so Allah was the very essence of their helpers, and they perished in Him forever.”

Allah’s words, “Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him,” mean that He commanded, obligated and ordained this. In another reading: “Your Lord has enjoined that you worship none but Him.” Yet he construed this to mean that Allah decreed and willed that you worship none but Him—and whatever He decrees comes to pass. He thus made it mean that every object of worship is Allah, and that no one has ever worshipped anything other than Allah. This is among the most blatant fabrications against Allah, His Book, His religion and the people of the earth. For Allah has stated in numerous places that the polytheists worshipped others besides Allah. Indeed, they worship Satan, as the Exalted said:

“Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you should not worship Satan—for he is your clear enemy—and that you should worship Me? This is a straight path. He has led great multitudes of you astray; did you not use your reason?”

The Exalted also related that Joseph said:

“O my two fellow prisoners, are many different lords better, or Allah, the One, the All-Subduing? You worship besides Him nothing but names that you and your forefathers have devised, for which Allah has sent down no authority. Judgement belongs to Allah alone. He has commanded that you worship none but Him. That is the upright religion, but most people do not know.”

And the Exalted said:
