some scholars have said:

“When it comes to obedience, you are a Qadarī; when it comes to disobedience, you are a Jabrī. Whichever doctrine agrees with your desires, you adopt.”

Everyone who invokes divine decree to justify neglecting an obligation or committing what is forbidden contradicts himself: he does not accept it as an excuse when his own desires are opposed. Rather, he is hostile towards anyone who hurts him, even if that person is in the right, and loves anyone who supports his aims, even if that person is an enemy of Allah. His love and hatred, allegiance and enmity thus follow his desires, aims, spiritual experience, and inward feelings—not Allah’s commands and prohibitions, His love and hatred, or His friendship and enmity. For he cannot accept divine decree as an excuse for everyone. That would necessarily entail corruption incompatible with any good order, and evil containing no good. If everyone were permitted to invoke divine decree as an excuse, no aggressor would be punished, no retribution would be exacted from an oppressive transgressor, and no wronged person’s rights would be recovered from the one who wronged him. Everyone would do whatever he desired, with no one opposing him. The corruption this would entail is known only to the Lord of all His servants.

It is self-evident that actions fall into those that benefit people and those that harm them. Allah has sent His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to enjoin what is right upon the believers and forbid them what is wrong, to make wholesome things lawful for them and foul things unlawful. Whoever does not follow Allah’s law and religion follows their opposite: desires and religious innovations. His appeal to divine decree is then an instance of arguing with falsehood to refute the truth, not of relying upon divine decree. He would also have to regard everyone subject to divine decrees as excused.
