He had said before this:
“How do they come to you for judgment when they have the Torah, which contains Allah’s judgment, and then turn away after that? Such people are not believers.”
“Indeed, We sent down the Torah, containing guidance and light. By it, the prophets who submitted to Allah judged for the Jews, as did the godly scholars and rabbis, for they were entrusted with safeguarding Allah’s Book and were witnesses to it.”
He also said:
“Had they upheld the Torah and the Gospel and what was revealed to them from their Lord, they would have received provision from above them and from beneath their feet.”
He also said:
“Say, ‘O People of the Scripture, you have no ground to stand on unless you uphold the Torah and the Gospel and what has been revealed to you from your Lord.’ What has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief, so do not grieve over the disbelieving people.”
This is a command to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to say this to the People of the Scripture to whom he was sent—those living in his time and those who would come after them until the Day of Resurrection. “How do they come to you for judgment when they have the Torah, which contains Allah’s judgment?”
speaks of the Jews then living and states that they possessed the Torah, containing Allah’s judgment. Likewise, His statement:
“Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein”

Before addressing this, the reply is:
It has been said that nowhere in the world is there a copy containing exactly what Allah revealed in the Torah and the Gospel; rather, that has been altered. For the Torah’s transmission through numerous independent transmitters was interrupted, and the Gospel
