Shaykh al-Islām—may Allah have mercy on him—also said:

Section

Allah Most High said:

“Guide us to the straight path.”

“The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have incurred wrath, nor of those who have gone astray.”

It is authentically reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“The Jews are those who have incurred wrath, and the Christians are those who have gone astray.”

The Book of Allah indicates this in several places, such as His words:

“Say: Shall I inform you of those whose recompense with Allah is worse than that? Those whom Allah has cursed and with whom He is angry.”

And His words:

“So they incurred wrath upon wrath.”

And His words:

“They incurred wrath from Allah and were stricken with destitution.”

Concerning the Christians, He said:

“Say: O People of the Book, do not go beyond the bounds of truth in your religion, and do not follow the desires of a people who went astray before, led many astray, and strayed from the right way.”

He also said:

“O People of the Book, do not go to excess in your religion, nor say anything about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, His word which He conveyed to Mary, and a spirit from Him.”

Allah Most High said:

“The Jews say, ‘Ezra is the son of Allah,’ and the Christians say, ‘The Messiah is the son of Allah.’ That is what they say with their mouths, imitating the words of those who disbelieved before them. May Allah destroy them! How are they turned away from the truth!”

“They have taken their rabbis and monks as lords besides Allah, and also the Messiah, son of Mary, although they were commanded only to worship one God. There is no deity worthy of worship except Him. Glory be to Him, far above what they associate with Him!”

Allah Most High said:

“It is not for a human being
