There are many hadiths to this effect in the two Sahīh collections and the Sunan collections. Among the reliably transmitted reports from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—is the following:
“Adam and Moses met. Adam said: ‘You are Moses, to whom Allah spoke directly, without placing between you and Himself any messenger from His creation.’”
The early generations of the Muslim community and its imams declared the Jahmiyyah disbelievers for saying that Allah created speech in certain physical bodies, which Moses then heard, and interpreting His speaking to Moses in this way.
As for his statement, “Allah wrote the Torah with His own hand,” this has been narrated in the two Sahīh collections. Whoever denies it is mistaken and misguided. If he denies it after learning of the authentic hadith, he deserves punishment.
As for his statement, “He handed it from His hand to his,” this is reported from a number of the Successors, and this is also how it is related among the People of the Book. However, I know of no wording other than this transmitted from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Thus, if the person using this expression intends something contrary to that, he is mistaken. And Allah knows best.
