the deeds of His servants. Thus, Allah is the Creator of the speech and utterances of everyone who speaks. If He were the speaker of whatever speech He creates, then every utterance in existence would be His speech—even the speech of Iblīs, the disbelievers and others. This is what the extreme Jahmiyya, such as Ibn ‘Arabī and his like, maintain. They say:
“All speech in existence is His speech—
Whether prose or verse, to us it is the same.”
The same applies to their counterparts among the extreme anthropomorphists, who say that human speech is uncreated. Each of these two groups places the speech of created beings on the same footing as the speech of the Creator. The former regard it all as created and all as Allah’s speech; the latter regard it all as Allah’s speech and as uncreated. This is why a connection developed between the leader of the hulūlī Jahmiyya and the leader of the hulūlī anthropomorphists.
Because of these innovations and similar evils that contradict the religion of Islam, Allah allowed the enemies of the religion to gain the upper hand. For Allah says:
“Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is All-Strong, Almighty.”
“Those who, if We establish them in the land, establish prayer, give zakat, enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. And to Allah belongs the outcome of all matters.”
What greater good is there than faith in Allah, His names and His signs? And what greater evil is there than deviation concerning Allah’s names and His signs?
Second:
These misguided people should be told: Whatever Allah creates in something other than Himself
