If I obey you and defy inward feeling, I turn away, blind,
From direct vision to the illusions of reports.
The very thing you call me to, when you examine it closely,
You will see to be what is forbidden, O my neighbor.”

Abraham also said to his father:

“O my father, do not worship Satan. Indeed, Satan has ever been disobedient to the Most Merciful.”

Yet according to them, Satan is a divine manifestation who ought to be revered; whoever worships him worships none other than Allah. Satan is not distinct from the Most Merciful, such that we should disobey him. He, glorified be He, has said:

“Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you should not worship Satan? Indeed, he is a clear enemy to you.”

“And that you should worship Me? This is a straight path.”

Up to His words:

“Use reason.”

Thus, He forbade them to worship Satan and commanded them to worship Allah alone, glorified be He. Yet according to them, worshipping Satan is also worshipping Him. It would therefore follow that Satan and all existing things should be worshipped, since they are His very essence.

Allah Most High also relates concerning the leader of all creation, the close friend of the Most Merciful, that when he

“saw a star, he said, ‘This is my Lord.’ But when it set, he said, ‘I do not love those that set.’”

“Then when he saw the moon rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord.’ But when it set, he said, ‘Unless my Lord guides me, I will surely be among those who go astray.’”

“Then when he saw the sun rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord; this is greater.’ But when it set, he said, ‘O my people, I am free of whatever you associate with Allah.’”

“Indeed, I have turned my face”—up to His words—“and they are rightly guided.”

He also said:

“You have indeed had an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, ‘We are free of you’”—up to His words—“‘until you believe in Allah alone.’”

Allah Most High said:

“And when Abraham said to his father and his people, ‘Indeed, I am free of what you worship.’”

“‘Except the One who created me.’”

The verse. Allah Most High also said:

“Have you considered what you have been worshipping,”

“you and your forefathers?”

“When we equated you with the Lord of all worlds.”
