Islam, including rulers of the Turks and others. When they are told, “Come to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger,” they turn away in outright aversion. When calamity afflicts their minds, religion, and worldly affairs through specious doubts and desires, or strikes their persons and property as punishment for their hypocrisy, they say that they only intended to do good by establishing knowledge through inward experience and to reconcile “scriptural proofs” with “rational certainties”—which are, in reality, conjectures and specious doubts—or “experiential certainties”—which are, in reality, delusions and fantasies.

“Those are the ones whose hearts Allah knows. So turn away from them, admonish them, and speak to them in words that reach their hearts.”

Up to His words:

“But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge in their disputes, then find within themselves no unease over your judgment and submit wholeheartedly.”

Allah Most High also says:

“They say, ‘We believe in Allah and in the Messenger, and we obey.’ Then a group of them turns away after that. Such people are not believers.”

“When they are called to Allah and His Messenger so that he may judge between them, a group of them turns away.”

Up to His words:

“The only response of the believers, when they are called to Allah and His Messenger so that he may judge between them, is to say, ‘We hear and we obey.’”

And the rest of the verse. Allah Most High also says:

“When they are told, ‘Believe in what Allah has revealed,’ they say, ‘We believe in what was revealed to us,’ yet they disbelieve in what came after it, although it is the truth, confirming what they have.”

Allah, glorified is He, has condemned those who divide and disagree over the Scripture, each believing in some of it but not the rest. As Allah Most High says:

“Mankind was one community. Then Allah sent the prophets as bearers of good tidings and warners, and sent down with them the Scripture in truth to judge
