although their expulsion was forbidden to you. Do you then believe in part of the Scripture and disbelieve in the rest? What recompense can there be for those among you who do this except disgrace in this worldly life? On the Day of Resurrection, they will be returned to the severest punishment. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.”

Allah Most High also says:

“Have you not seen those who claim to believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you? They wish to seek judgment from false deities, although they were commanded to reject them. Satan wishes to lead them far astray.”

“When they are told, ‘Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,’ you see the hypocrites turn away from you in outright aversion.”

Allah Most High also says:

“Have you not seen those who were given a share of the Scripture? They believe in idols and false deities, and say of the disbelievers, ‘These are more rightly guided than the believers.’”

“Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed, and whoever Allah curses, you will find no helper for him.”

Thus, He condemned those who were given a share of the Scripture because they believed in what lay outside the message and preferred those outside the message to those who believed in it. Likewise, some people prefer the Sabian philosophers and regimes of ignorance—the ignorance of the Turks, Daylamites, Arabs, Persians, and others—to those who believe in Allah, His Book, and His Messenger.

He likewise condemned those who claim to believe in all the Scriptures, yet abandon recourse to the Book and the Sunnah for judgment and instead seek judgment from certain false deities venerated besides Allah.
