is created, whereas Allah’s words are uncreated. Allah Most High says:
“Even if all the trees on earth were pens, and the sea, replenished by seven more seas, were ink, Allah’s words would not be exhausted.”
Thus, if the seas were imagined as ink, they would be exhausted, but Allah’s words would never be exhausted. Hence the leading scholars of the Sunnah said that Allah has always spoken however He wills and whatever He wills, as conveyed in reports from Ibn al-Mubārak, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and others.
Moreover, He, glorified be He, has described Himself as calling out in more than ten passages. Allah Most High says:
“When they tasted the tree, their nakedness became apparent to them, and they began covering themselves with leaves from Paradise. Their Lord called to them: ‘Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you that Satan is a clear enemy to you?’”
Allah Most High also says:
“On the Day He calls to them and says: ‘Where are those you claimed to be My partners?’”
“On the Day He calls to them and says: ‘How did you respond to the messengers?’”
He, glorified be He, mentions His calling to Moses, peace be upon him, in Surah Tā-Hā, Surah Maryam, the three Tā-Sīn surahs, and Surah al-Nāziʿāt. He states that He called to him at a particular time. Allah Most High says:
“When he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley, in the blessed place, from the tree: ‘O Moses, indeed I am Allah, Lord of all worlds.’”
Allah Most High says:
“Has the story of Moses reached you?”
“When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwā.”
Allah Most High also says:
“You were not beside the Mount when We called.”
Reports have been abundantly transmitted from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the Companions, the Successors, and the leading scholars of the Sunnah after them, affirming that He, glorified be He, calls with a voice: He called to Moses
