He, glorified and exalted, has distinguished His speech from the ink used for His words by saying:
“Say, ‘If the sea were ink for the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought its like as a supplement.’”
Allah’s words are uncreated, whereas the ink used to write Allah’s words is created. The Quran written in copies of the Quran is uncreated, as is that written in the Preserved Tablet and elsewhere. The Most High says:
“Rather, it is a glorious Quran, in a Preserved Tablet.”
And He says:
“No! Indeed, it is a reminder—so whoever wills may take heed of it—in honoured pages, exalted and purified.”
And the Most High says:
“Reciting purified pages containing upright writings.”
And He says:
“Indeed, it is a noble Quran, in a well-guarded Book, which none touch except the purified.”

As for the two disputants who disagreed over “the letters that Allah sent down to Adam,” one said: “They are eternal and have no beginning, whereas their vowel marks and dots came into being.”
The other said: “They are not Allah’s speech; rather, they are created, including their vowel marks and dots. It is Allah who is eternal, and His speech originated from Him and will return to Him; it is sent down and uncreated. But He wrote using them.”
They ask us to explain what is correct and which of them is sounder in belief. They should be told: Explaining what is correct requires clarifying the ambiguous language in the question.
