Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

then he possessed Allah’s knowledge. If he understood only part of it, then it is divisible, whereas in their view Allah’s speech admits neither division nor multiplicity.

They were also told:

Allah has distinguished between His speaking to Moses and His conveying revelation to others. Yet according to your premise, there is no difference.

They were also told:

Allah has declared whoever considers the Arabic Quran to be the word of a human being a disbeliever. Yet He has attributed it, in one passage, to a human messenger and, in another, to an angelic messenger. In one passage He says:

“Indeed, it is the word of a noble messenger.”
“It is not the word of a poet—how little you believe!”
“Nor the word of a soothsayer—how little you reflect!”

This messenger is Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. In the other passage He says:

“Indeed, it is the word of a noble messenger,”
“Possessed of strength, held in honour with the Lord of the Throne,”
“Obeyed there and trustworthy.”

This is Gabriel. Thus, He attributes it in one passage to the angelic messenger and in another to the human messenger. Allah chooses messengers from among the angels and from among humankind.

Some of these people claimed that Gabriel or Muhammad originated the Arabic Quran. They were therefore told:

If either of them had originated it, it could not properly be attributed to the other. Yet Allah, glorified is He, attributed it to each of them using the designation “messenger,” which points to the One who sent him, rather than the designation “angel” or “prophet.” This indicates that it is the word of a messenger who conveyed it from the One who sent him, not the word of an angel or a prophet who originated it himself. Indeed, whoever says that it is the word of a human being has disbelieved.
