“When their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they exulted in the knowledge they possessed, and they were engulfed by what they used to mock.”
He also said:
“When they are told, ‘Believe as the people have believed,’ they say, ‘Should we believe as the fools have believed?’ Indeed, it is they who are the fools, but they do not know.”
Allah Most High said:
“Indeed, the wicked used to laugh at those who believed”—up to His words: “Yet they were not sent as guardians over them.”
Allah Most High said concerning the people of Noah:
“Should we believe in you when the lowliest have followed you?”
They also said:
“We see that none have followed you but the lowliest among us, at first glance.”
He said:
“The life of this world has been made alluring to those who disbelieve, and they ridicule those who believe.”
He also said:
“Whenever a group of chiefs from his people passed by him, they mocked him.”
Indeed, they accuse the prophets themselves of madness, foolishness, misguidance and other such things. Thus they said of Noah:
“‘A madman!’ And he was rebuffed.”
They also said:
“We certainly see you in clear error.”
And to Hūd:
“We certainly see you as foolish.”

“Faith in the messengers” must be comprehensive, universal and consistent, admitting no division, partial acceptance or contradiction: one must believe in all the messengers and in everything revealed to them. Whoever believes in some messengers and disbelieves in others, or believes in some of what Allah has revealed and disbelieves in other parts, is a disbeliever. This is the condition of those among the Jews, Christians and Sabians who altered the religion and disbelieved; for
