Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

He also said:

Repentance is among the greatest good deeds. All good deeds require sincerity to Allah and conformity to His command by following His Messenger. Seeking forgiveness is also among the greatest good deeds, and its door is wide open.

Whoever senses any deficiency in his speech, actions, condition, livelihood, or the changing states of his heart should turn to affirming Allah’s oneness and seeking forgiveness, for these bring healing when accompanied by truthfulness and sincerity. Likewise, if a servant finds himself falling short in fulfilling the rights of relatives, family, children, neighbors, and brethren, he should supplicate for them and seek forgiveness.

Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamān said to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, “I am sharp-tongued toward my family.” He replied, “What about seeking forgiveness? I seek Allah’s forgiveness more than seventy times a day.”
