As for victory, Allah Most High may at times grant the unbelievers victory over the believers, just as He grants the believers victory over the unbelievers. Such was the case with the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and their enemies. Yet the ultimate outcome belongs to those who are mindful of Allah, for Allah says:

“Indeed, We will support Our messengers and those who believe during the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses stand forth.”

When the Muslims are weak and their enemies have the upper hand over them, this is because of their sins and misdeeds: either their neglect of their inward and outward obligations, or their transgression of the limits, inwardly and outwardly.

Allah Most High says:

“Indeed, those of you who turned away on the day the two armies met—it was Satan who caused them to slip because of some of what they had earned.”

And He Most High says:

“Why, when a calamity befell you, although you had inflicted twice as much, did you say, ‘How has this come about?’ Say, ‘It is from your own selves.’”

And He Most High says:

“Allah will surely support those who support His cause. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Almighty.”

“Those who, if We establish them in the land, establish prayer, give zakah, enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong. And to Allah belongs the outcome of all affairs.”
