—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all religion. And sufficient is Allah as a witness.

He perfected the religion for him and his community, as He, Most High, says:

“This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and chosen Islam as your religion.”

He announced felicity for those who obey Him and misery for those who disobey Him. He, Most High, says:

“Whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger will be with those whom Allah has blessed: the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. What excellent companions they are!”

And He, Most High, says:

“Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger will have the Fire of Hell, abiding therein forever.”

He commanded people to refer their religious disagreements back to the revelation with which He sent His Messenger, as He, Most High, says:

“O you who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. If you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is best and leads to the best outcome.”

He declared that His Messenger calls to Allah and to His straight path, as He, Most High, says:

“Say: This is my way. I call to Allah with clear insight—I and those who follow me.”

And He, Most High, says:

“Indeed, you guide to a straight path—the path of Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Surely, to Allah all matters return.”

He declared that His Messenger enjoins what is right, forbids what is wrong, makes good things lawful, and makes foul things unlawful, as He, Most High, says:

“My mercy encompasses all things, so I shall decree it
