Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

And if it is neither prescribed nor commanded, then purifying oneself for it or listening to it in silence and seeking the opening of the gate of mercy are akin to the practices of monks—not the worship of the people of Islam and faith, the people of the Quran, or the people of the Sunnah and spiritual excellence. All praise is due to Allah alone.
