“O Abū Mūsā, remind us of our Lord.” He would then recite while they listened.

This is the listening in which the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, participated with his Companions and which he requested of them, as related in the Sahīh from ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd, who said:

“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘Recite the Quran to me.’ I said, ‘Shall I recite it to you when it was revealed to you?’ He replied, ‘I love to hear it from someone else.’ So I recited Surah al-Nisāʾ to him until I reached this verse: ‘How, then, will it be when We bring a witness from every nation and bring you as a witness against these people?’ He said, ‘That is enough.’ I looked and saw tears flowing from his eyes.”

This is what the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and his Companions used to listen to. As Allah Most High said:

“Allah has certainly bestowed a great favour upon the believers by sending among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting His verses to them, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom.”

“Wisdom” here is the Sunnah.

Allah Most High said:

“I have only been commanded to worship the Lord of this city, who has made it sacred and to whom all things belong. And I have been commanded to be one of those who submit to Him.”

“And to recite the Quran. Whoever is guided is guided only for his own benefit; and whoever goes astray, say, ‘I am only one of the warners.’”

The same applies to the other messengers. Allah Most High said:

“O children of Adam, if messengers from among you come to you, relating My verses to you, then those who fear Allah and mend their ways will have no fear, nor will they grieve.”

This is the basis upon which the case will be established against them on the Day of Resurrection. As Allah Most High said:

“O company of jinn
