As for error and bewilderment:

Allah has never praised either of these, nor did the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ever say:

“Increase my bewilderment concerning You.”

No scholar of hadith has narrated this report. It appears in no hadith collection, nor in any book written by someone knowledgeable about hadith—nor even by anyone who knows Allah and His Messenger. The same applies to his citing as evidence Allah’s words:

“Whenever it gives them light, they walk in it; when darkness falls upon them, they stand still.”

This describes only the condition of the apostate hypocrites. Error and bewilderment are among the things Allah has condemned in the Quran. Allah, Exalted is He, says in the Quran:

“Say, ‘Shall we invoke besides Allah that which neither benefits nor harms us, and turn back on our heels after Allah has guided us, like one whom the devils have led astray on earth, bewildered?’”

—and the rest of the verse.

This is precisely what these misguided, bewildered people wish to do to the believers. They want them to invoke besides Allah that which neither harms nor benefits them: created beings, idols, images, and everything worshipped besides Allah. They want to turn the believers back on their heels, turning them away from belief in Allah, His angels, His Books, His messengers, and resurrection after death, so that they become bewildered and astray:

“Like one whom the devils have led astray on earth, bewildered, while he has companions calling him to guidance, ‘Come to us.’”

And He, Exalted is He, says:

“And We turn their hearts and eyes away,”

up to His words:

“Wandering blindly”—that is, bewildered.

And He, Exalted is He, says:

“And their hearts are filled with doubt, so in their doubt they waver.”

And He, Exalted is He, says:

“Guide us to the straight path—the path of those You have blessed, not those who have incurred Your anger, nor those who have gone astray.”

He thus commanded that
