Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

a prophet other than their own.” And Allah Most High revealed:

“Is it not enough for them that We have sent down to you the Book, which is recited to them?”—and the rest of the verse.

Indeed, it has been established—indeed, through authentic hadiths—that “when the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, descends from heaven, he will follow the law of Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.”

If even the prophets who live to encounter him are obliged to follow and support him—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then what of those beneath them? Indeed, it is a self-evident teaching of Islam that anyone whom his call has reached may not follow the law of another messenger, such as Moses or Jesus. If it is impermissible to depart from his law for that of another messenger, then what of departing from his way and that of all the messengers?

As Allah Most High said:

“Say, ‘We believe in Allah and what has been sent down to us, and what was sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and what Moses and Jesus were given, and what the prophets were given by their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit.’”

“So if they believe as you believe, they are rightly guided. But if they turn away, they are merely in opposition. Allah will suffice you against them, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”

And Allah Most High said:

“The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, as do the believers. Each believes in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers: ‘We make no distinction between any of His messengers.’ They say, ‘We hear and obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord. To You is the final return.’”
