Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Thus, when these people say that He is identical with the heavens and the earth, they deny what Pharaoh denied and acknowledge what Pharaoh acknowledged. The difference is that Pharaoh did not call it a god or say that it was Allah, whereas these people say, “This is Allah.” They acknowledge the Creator, but identify Him with His creation. In reality, therefore, they deny the Creator, although they believe that they acknowledge Him.

With Pharaoh, the reverse was true: outwardly he denied the Creator, while inwardly he acknowledged Him. His unbelief is therefore greater than theirs, but they are more misguided and ignorant than he was. This is why they hold him in such high esteem.

The speaker’s statement: “Rather, this is the plain truth to be followed—not what is held by one who has strayed from the paths and religion of Islam, wandering bewildered in the wilderness of his error and ignorance.”

The reply is: Who among the earlier or later generations ever proclaimed this truth? Here is the Book of Allah, from beginning to end—His speech, His revelation, and what He has sent down—and it contains nothing of this. Nor is any of this found in a single hadith from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, or reported from any of the imams and masters of Islam. It comes only from these fabricators of lies against Allah, who stand among religious masters as Genghis Khan does in warfare. Their religion resembles his regime, and perhaps his acknowledgment of the Creator is better than theirs. Some of them, however, may hold that embracing Islam is obligatory, in which respect they would be better than the Tatars.

As for their accomplished exponents and the majority of them, they regard adopting Judaism, Christianity, or Islam as permissible
