and have feared Allah. For them are glad tidings in the life of this world and in the Hereafter.”

The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Beware of the believer’s discernment, for he sees by the light of Allah.” Then he recited the words of the Most High: “Indeed, in that are signs for those who discern.”

Al-Tirmidhī narrated it from Abū Saʿīd and graded it sound.

Allah Most High said, as reported from Him by His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“Whoever shows enmity to an ally of Mine has openly challenged Me to war. Nothing by which My servant draws near to Me compares with his fulfilling what I have made obligatory upon him. My servant continues to draw near to Me through voluntary acts of worship until I love him. When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he grasps, and his foot with which he walks. Through Me he hears, through Me he sees, through Me he grasps, and through Me he walks. If he asks Me, I will surely give him; and if he seeks refuge in Me, I will surely grant him refuge. I have never hesitated over anything I am going to do as I hesitate over taking the soul of My believing servant: he dislikes death, and I dislike causing him distress, yet he must undergo it.”

This states that Allah wages war against whoever wages war against His ally. It also states that the one He loves gains knowledge through Him by hearing and seeing, and acts through Him by grasping and walking. It further states that He grants him the benefits he asks of Him and wards off the harms from which he seeks refuge in Him. This is a vast subject.

Extraordinary occurrences, however, may accompany religious devotion, but they may also occur when it is absent, corrupt, or deficient.
