Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

this verse:

‘How will it be when We bring a witness from every nation and bring you as a witness against these people?’

He said, ‘That is enough,’ and his eyes were streaming with tears.”

Such listening is the listening of the prophets and their followers, as Allah describes in the Quran:

“Those were the prophets whom Allah blessed, from the descendants of Adam, from those We carried with Noah, from the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and from those We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell down in prostration and weeping.”

He says of those who possess knowledge:

“When they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of the truth they recognize.”

Glorified is He, He praises those who listen in this way for the increase in faith, the trembling of their skin, and the tears that flow from their eyes. He, Most High, says:

“Allah has sent down the best message: a Book whose verses are consistent and oft-repeated. The skins of those who fear their Lord shiver at it; then their skins and hearts soften at the remembrance of Allah.”

He, Most High, also says:

“The believers are only those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, whose faith increases when His verses are recited to them, and who put their trust in their Lord.”

“Those who establish prayer and spend from what We have provided for them.”

“They are the true believers. They will have ranks with their Lord, forgiveness, and a generous provision.”

As for the newly introduced practice of listening to handclapping, tambourines, and reed pipes, the Companions, those who followed them in righteousness, and all the other great imams of the religion did not make this a path to Allah, Blessed and Exalted, nor did they regard it as an act of drawing near to Him or of obedience.
