Some of them see a throne in the air with a light above it and hear someone addressing them, saying, “I am your Lord.” If the person has discernment, he recognizes that it is a devil, rebukes it, and seeks refuge in Allah from it, whereupon it disappears.

Some of them see figures while awake, one of whom claims to be a prophet, a man of truth, or a righteous shaykh. This has happened to more than one person. Others see in a dream that some eminent figure—whether al-Siddīq, may Allah be pleased with him, or someone else—has cut or shaved their hair, or dressed them in his cap or garment. They then awake wearing a cap, with their hair shaved or trimmed. In reality, it was the jinn who shaved or trimmed their hair.

These satanic experiences occur to those who depart from the Quran and Sunnah. They differ in degree, and the jinn who associate with them are of their own kind and follow their beliefs. Among the jinn are disbelievers, evildoers, and those who err. If the human is a disbeliever, an evildoer, or ignorant, they join him in disbelief, wickedness, and misguidance. They may assist him if he agrees to the acts of disbelief they choose, such as adjuring them by the names of those they revere among the jinn and others; writing Allah’s names or some of His words with filth; or reversing the order of Sūrat al-Fātihah, Sūrat al-Ikhlās, the Verse of the Throne, or other passages, and writing them with filth. They then make water sink into the ground for him and transport it, because of the acts of disbelief with which he pleases them.

They may also bring him a woman or boy whom he desires, either through the air or driven and forced to come to him. There are many other such things, which would take too long to describe, and belief in them is belief
