“If what I have suffered reflects my standing with you in love,
then I have squandered my days.
A wish my soul attained for a time—
today I deem it a tangle of dreams.”

For he used to think that he was Allah. But when Allah’s angels came to take his soul, the falsity of what he had believed became clear to him. Allah Most High says:

“Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.”

Everything in the heavens and the earth therefore glorifies Allah; it is not Allah. Then the Most High says:

“To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He gives life and causes death, and He has power over all things.”

“He is the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden, and He has knowledge of all things.”

It is reported in Sahīh Muslim that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to say in his supplication:

“O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the mighty Throne, our Lord and the Lord of all things, Splitter of grain and fruit stones, Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran! I seek refuge in You from the evil of every creature whose forelock You hold. You are the First, and nothing is before You; You are the Last, and nothing is after You; You are the Manifest, and nothing is above You; You are the Hidden, and nothing is nearer than You. Settle my debt for me and free me from poverty.”

Then He says:

“He is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then rose over the Throne. He knows what enters the earth and what emerges from it, what descends from heaven and what ascends into it. He is with you wherever you are, and Allah sees all that you do.”
