of a satanic nature. They speak as the author of al-Futūhāt does in his chapter on “The Land of Reality,” which they call the land of imagination.
It thus becomes clear that the reality he discusses is imagination and a realm in which Satan operates, for Satan makes people imagine things to be other than they really are. Allah Most High says:
“Whoever turns a blind eye to the remembrance of the Most Merciful, We assign to him a devil who becomes his companion.”
“They certainly turn them away from the path, while they think they are rightly guided.”
“Until, when he comes to Us, he says, ‘Would that there were between me and you the distance between east and west! What an evil companion!’”
“Today, since you did wrong, it will not benefit you that you share in the punishment.”
Allah Most High also says:
“Allah does not forgive associating partners with Him, but He forgives anything less than that for whomever He wills. Whoever associates partners with Allah has indeed strayed far astray.”
Up to His words:
“He makes them promises and fills them with false hopes, but Satan promises them nothing but delusion.”
Allah Most High also says:
“Satan will say when the matter has been decided, ‘Allah made you a true promise. I too made you promises, but I failed you. I had no authority over you, except that I called you and you responded to me. So do not blame me; blame yourselves. I cannot rescue you, nor can you rescue me. I disavow your having previously associated me with Allah. Indeed, the wrongdoers will have a painful punishment.’”
Allah Most High also says:
“And when Satan made their deeds seem fair to them and said, ‘No one among the people can overcome you today, and I am your protector.’ But when the two forces came within sight of one another, he turned on his heels and said, ‘I have nothing to do with you. I see what you do not see. I fear Allah, and Allah is severe in punishment.’”
